I’m incredibly excited to share something close to my heart with you all today. As an advocate for increasing diversity and equity for women in tech, I’ve been working on a project that can change lives. It’s called The Girl Code, and it’s all about empowering women to dive into the world of coding and kickstart their careers in computer programming.
Now, you might wonder, what exactly is The Girl Code, and why is it so important? Well, let me break it down for you.
The Girl Code Program
The Girl Code is a coding program designed for girls as young as 13 to learn industry-relevant skills and certifications that help them get ahead in a field that often is not designed for them. It’s a comprehensive training program providing them with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to thrive in male-dominated technology. From learning the basics of coding languages like Python and SQL to delving into more advanced concepts like web development and database design, The Girl Code covers a lot.
But … it’s not just about teaching girls how to code. It’s about instilling confidence, fostering creativity, and cultivating a community of empowered young women ready to take on the tech world. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events, we create a supportive environment where girls can learn, grow, and connect with like-minded individuals who share their passion for technology. They practice these skills using real-world problem sets and collaborate on projects that help them develop their proficiency firsthand.
Why Now?
So why is this initiative so important? Well, the numbers speak for themselves. Despite making up half the population, women are severely underrepresented in the tech industry. Studies show that only a fraction of computer science graduates are women, and even fewer go on to pursue careers in tech. This gender gap not only limits opportunities for women but also hinders innovation and diversity in the field.
But The Girl Code will change that. By equipping young women with the skills and resources they need to succeed in tech, we’re not just closing the gender gap – we’re smashing it to pieces. We’re creating a future where women are leaders, innovators, and trailblazers in the world of technology. That is paramount to the mission of Ex.C.E.L. We define the standard for excellence in cultivating exceptional leaders. We are excited to announce our partnerships with DataCamp Donates and CompTIA to bring this training program to you.
So, how can you get involved? Whether you’re a parent looking to enroll your daughter in our program, a woman who’s unemployed or underemployed looking to start a new career, a tech professional interested in mentoring aspiring coders, or just someone who believes in our mission, there are plenty of ways to support The Girl Code. Visit our website to learn more about our programs, upcoming events, and how you can make a difference.
Together, we can rewrite the rules and pave the way for a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable tech industry. Let’s break the code – The Girl Code. Ready to apply? Click Here!
Until next time,
Kat
